If your organization allows it, you can set up Google Workspace on an iOS device to access your work or school account. You can use your own personal device or one that's issued to you by your organization. Depending on how your administrator configures settings, you can access your account through Google Workspace apps or with the iOS apps on your device.

I want to use iOS apps

If your administrator allows it, you can sync your Google Workspace mail, calendars, and contacts with the corresponding apps on your iOS device. You can get email from your work or school account, see your Google Calendar events, and view Google Contacts in your corresponding iOS apps.

To add your Google Workspace account to the Mail app:

  1. On your iOS device, open Settings.
  2. Depending on your iOS version, do one of the following actions:
  3. Tap Google.
  4. Sign in using your Google Workspace account.
Your Google Workspace account is the account that you use for work or school.
  5. Close the settings and open the Mail app.

What's next?

It depends on how your administrator manages your device.

  • If you open the Mail app and see your work emails, you can start using iOS apps for work right away.
  • If you don't see your work emails in the Mail app, your administrator might require that you use Google apps. Check with your administrator and try the steps in I want to use Google apps above.

Step 2: Install the Google Device Policy app

To make sure that your organization's data stays safe, you might be asked to install the Google Device Policy app. You'll be asked to install the app if:

  • Your administrator enforces certain security policies for mobile devices. Learn more
  • Your administrator wants to manage corporate apps on your device. Learn more
  • You try to sign in to your work account through a third-party app.

Install the Device Policy app

  1. Choose an option:
    • If your device prompted you to install the app, tap App Store.
    • If you didn't see a prompt, open the App Store and search for Google Device Policy.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the app.
You might need to enter your Apple ID and password.
  3. Open Google Device Policy "", read and swipe through the information screens, and tap Continue.
  4. If you want to receive notifications from the app (recommended), tap Allow.
  5. Tap Get started and sign in using your Google Workspace account.
Your Google Workspace account is the account that you use for work or school.

  7. Tap Download "" and thenfollow the steps to install the configuration profile. See step 3 below.

Step 3: Install the configuration profile

If you see a Device Policy alert message that asks you to install a security profile, follow these steps.

You might be prompted to install a Google mobile device management configuration profile on your device. This profile helps your administrator to protect your organization's data on the device. Learn more

  2. Tap Close and thenopen your Settings app.

To get work apps, open Google Device Policy "" and thentap Menu "" and then Apps.

Set up a company-owned device

" "

If you use a company-owned device for work, the device is managed by your IT administrator. The device is pre-configured with your organization's preferred settings. Your administrator can control device features, such as whether or not you can access the Apple App Store or change notification settings.

Before you begin: If your organization issued you with a device that was already in use, the device needs to be reset to its factory settings. If you need help, contact your administrator.

Set up your device

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Follow the prompts to set your preferred language, connect to a Wi-Fi network, and create a passcode for the device.
  3. On the Remote Management screen, tap Next.
  4. When prompted, sign in with your personal Apple ID and set up Apple security settings.

If you use an Apple ID that you used with a different mobile-management solution, the Google Device Policy app might not install. You need to use a different Apple ID. If you start setup and it doesn't complete, you need to factory reset your device and then restart setup with the new ID.

If you're using a new Apple ID, finish setting up the new ID in the App Store:

    1. Open the App Store and try installing one app to make sure your ID is ready to use.
If you get an error about using your Apple ID for the first time in the App Store, review your billing address and payment method for your Apple ID.
    2. Factory reset the device and use the same Apple ID to set up the device again. The Google Device Policy app should autoinstall this time.

If you try to restore from an iCloud backup during setup, you might not be able to use apps on your device. We recommend skipping the restore option. Your personal apps won't automatically set up on your device. However,  when you add the account for personal apps, your personal data will sync when the setup is complete.

Note: If the setup doesn't complete, factory reset the device and restart setup.

  5. Wait while the Google Device Policy app installs on the device.
  6. Open Google Device Policy "" and sign in using your Google Workspace account.
Your Google Workspace account is the account that you use for work or school.
  7. Tap Accept to agree to the Terms of Service.
  8. Follow the prompts to finish setting up your device.

To get work apps, open Google Device Policy "" and thentap Menu "" and then Apps.
